Alcohol Possible Factor In Fatal Crash On US 36 In Knox Co.

MONROE TOWNSHIP, OH – The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash. The fatal crash occurred on Saturday, December 9 at approximately 8:00 p.m. on US 36 near milepost 23 in Monroe Township, Knox County.

Donald E. McManaway, 47, of Mount Vernon, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on US 36. McManaway failed to negotiate a curve, went off the right side of the roadway, struck a mailbox and an embankment.

The Silverado overturned ejecting McManaway and came to a final rest on all four tires.

McManaway was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passenger, Laurie K. McManaway, 44, of Mount Vernon was transported by College Township EMS to the Knox Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both were not wearing seatbelts, and alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the College Township EMS and Fire.

The crash remains under investigation.
